Lately I’ve been feeling as though the Lord has something exciting for me. In January, I chose the word edit for my word of the year. And it seems to be fairly prophetic in several areas.
Editing Sparks Joy
My classroom received the Marie Kondo editing treatment. Anything that did not spark joy or serve a purpose for my students, had proved useless or was a one time wonder in 8th grade writing, met its recycle maker. I continue to edit away items that are too complicated or not strictly in line with the standards. Feels fantastic.
Secondly, the my clothes closets received the Kondo treatment as well. Thing is, the closet seems to produce more clothes right after the purging. Now that it’s been thinned out, all the ugly items are in sight. I am digging the Kondo jean fold. Have you tried it? You really can save more than ½ X the space when you fold the Kondo way.
Edit the Scale
Also, I turned back to the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating. Last year I lost 25 pounds by eating cleaner and mostly eating more often. It seems weird, but when I began eating more and smaller meals every 3-4 hours, my metabolism was reborn, or perhaps borne for the first time. Basically, you eliminate most sugar (no more than 2 g. per meal/serving) and eat high fat, a healthy protein, a super low carb helping. Then when you are needing some carbs, eat high carbs, a healthy protein, and super low healthy fats. Seriously, the pounds just fell off.
So, you can edit the same way. Check the girls out. It’s two sisters from Australia who live in the states. A couple of hippy-esque siblings, but ever so loving and laid back. I ‘ve never eaten so healthy and so many different foods. Check out their books and I found some web sites that have assisted with the program as well.
Serene and Pearl also have a podcast, called the Unpodcast. They recently edited it and made it a bit more professional, but still super laid back.
Edit Your Idea of Work
Perhaps most exciting, in listening to podcasters galore, I just keep finding shows out there that are teaching, encouraging, and uplifting. A new one is The Open Door Sisterhood.
I was reading through their posts, determined that I would follow them and eventually submit some writing to them. While looking through their submission guidelines, I noticed an open position for a newsletter editor. Reading the specs, I could see that the tasks were my jam, so I applied.
Editor.
Edit.
My word.
Lord, is this it? Is this for me? I do think it is, or perhaps it is part of it, or at least a path to it. I had a warm phone call with one of the founders, and we seemed to have a shared vision, definitely a rapport. Just like a sister.
So, I am *waiting for the next phone conversation this coming Tuesday. Maybe she’ll call and tell me that I’m a good fit for the editor position. But even if God leads them to another person, I have made a connection, and I put myself out there.
Part of the edit, is calling myself a writer every day. Sarah Werner in her podcast, Write Now told me to rise and say that every morning. I forget most mornings, but when I do it’s with a grin. Eventually, if I begin to believe it about myself, then my heavenly Editor will infuse me with the right words, and the right connections. I know he will.
I eagerly look for enriching opportunities.
And by the way, the editor position is volunteer. And it seems perfect: just a few hours a week.
Submitted and Edited
* Update. I had a second phone interview wherein the founder explained that she thought I am more suited to marketing and developing resources to support the podcast. Would I be interested? Of Course! WOW! On the way to my summer and a new mountain to conquer.
Just what I asked for.
See you soon….
What are you editing in your life?
